Tread softly on my dreams

Dreams are fragile things. This poem makes me think of the many dreams people have shared with me over the years, and I with them. Inner doubts and naysayers can so easily crush them. They are the embroidered cloths of our spirits. We need them if we are to release the talents that lie within us. The world needs our dreams, all of them.

And if you think it’s ever to late to reach for your star, watch this YouTube video of 80-year-old Janey Cutler wowing judges and audience on Britain’s Got Talent.

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

~ “Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven”, from The Wind Among the Reeds by William Butler Yeats
